Have You Seen Your Vision Board Lately?
2023 is right around the corner!
During this holiday season, we will share stories and special moments with our loved ones while enjoying delicious food. At dinner, people will ask how your year went, what are you thankful for and any exciting plans for the new year. We'll cheer to our successes and wish each other all the best. It's the perfect way to end the year and welcome the new year ahead. But what happened to that vision board you created earlier in the year or before 2021 ended? Filed away? Building dust in your closet under a pile of stuff you keep meaning to take to the donation center?
Wherever it is, it's time to dust it off and revisit it! Time to see what you had said you would be doing this year, what you accomplished and what remains.
When I created my vision board, I placed it right above my home office desk so that I could see it every day! It has specific goals (one mainly) and the rest were articles/images to remind me of who I am , aspirations and motivational quotes. It just so happened that the one goal I really wanted this year came to fruition.🙂 The rest I started or did not get the chance to incorporate this year. Does that make this year a failure?
NO! As I shared with a friend of mine recently, "Doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as you don't stop." It's all about forward momentum. As long as there is effort towards that goal or vision, that is a milestone worth celebrating. We are always hard on ourselves when we don't complete something within a certain amount of time or accomplish multiple goals as once. When we ask ourselves "What are my goals/vision for the following year?", we tend to be on cloud 9 and think we can reach all of them within a short period of time. It's a common mistake we make and it's up to us to learn to do the following:
Simplify the goal and ensure its within your control.
How will you measure it and what are the milestone leading up to the goal?
Is it attainable within 12 months? If not, be very clear that this will take time (3 year plan, 5 year plan, etc).
PRIORITIZE - What's your top 1 or 2 goals? You can add more as long as it doesn't take away from your top ones.
Celebrate through out the year and make adjustments where needed. No one said your goals cannot change.
There is something beautiful and magical about writing your goals in a format that makes it visual (almost tangible). It tells the universe that you have made up your mind on something you want and you are determined to bring that to life. There will be bumps on the road or no road at all, but it's all about that forward momentum.🙂
It's that vision that gives us direction, but it's the planning, hard work and action that brings them to life. Hope you take the time to revisit your vision board from 2022, celebrate what you have done and look towards continued success in 2023.
Share a comment about your vision board experience - Would love to hear your story!
