Women’s Best Friend
Ever since I was a little girl, my family and I have always had some kind of pet. We’ve had cats, rabbits, mouse, and dogs. They bring great joy to our family, heartaches and loss (Yes, I’ve lost a lot of things as a result ... like my favorite pair of shoes). Some we’ve had for a short period of time and some for several years, enjoying priceless memories that have given me several life lessons. However, I’ve noticed that out of all the pets I’ve had - my affection and love always leans towards my beloved dogs.
It‘s not that I have anything against other pets (Cats might be the exception) but there is something about these loving and loyal dogs that will always have a place in my heart. So I’ve done some reflecting and decided to share some of the key reasons dogs have earned a permanent spot as women’s best friend in my book.
They are loyal. From the very moment you hold them and sweet talk to them - they will always be there for You. Through the good and bad. what else could you ask for In a best friend?
They will never leave you alone. Never. I mean .... never. I’m doing my make-up, they are there. I’m working in my office, they are there by my Side. I’m taking a shit, they are there. Now they say kids are they same; however, kids grow out of it. Dogs never get tired of following you around... and it never gets old.
They never complain. They’ll watch whatever you want to see on TV. They wear whatever outfit you put on them. They can be a bit stubborn at times, but eventually give in. All they want is attention and love - along with some good food & the occasional walk.
They will never judge you. —- “Another glass of wine, Karen?” .... “Should you really be eating those, Susan?” .... ”Where did you sleep last night, Bambi?” —— none of it. Like a best friend, they will be there to cheer you on.
They are protective of you. If they hear a ghost, they will chase it off. If someone comes near your house, you will know. They will fight for you and defend you, even the little ones.
There are several reasons as to why dogs have a special place in my heart and words do not do justice. Somehow, their eyes reach deep into your soul and never let go. I’ve had some difficult times in my life and some amazing one, where my best friend has walked every step of the way by my side. A women’s best friend.
